I'm confirmed for the Family Values tour! I don't know if any of you are going, or want to go (I'm not going to assume yet that I can get anyone in though). And I also don't know if there's still four dates that we're not doing (that's what I originally heard). But... I'll be there, all 6 weeks. As merch person for Through You. I think there's 9 of us (5 in the band, me, and 3 others two of which I don't really know yet), in a van, but honestly, I think it'll be better than a bus. I won't get to lay down during drives, but I think we're getting hotel rooms every night so I'll have a normal bed and a nice (and private!) shower, and we can kind of go on our own schedule which is good for a lot of reasons.

Through You is going out on the Family Values tour! So if you're going, make sure to see them, on the second stage. They'll be playing 27 out of the 31 dates, but I don't know which ones. I don't know if I'm going or not. At first it was not (someone who was already there for something else with them was going to do merch too), but now I don't know. If I do go out, I'll let you all know right away so that #1 hopefully we can hang out when I'm in your area and #2 so we can work our summer plans around me not being there (like, Warped, I'd have to do TX instead of FL, ren fest would have to be in Sept., etc.) I'm at a video/photo shoot right now. I think they're doing it for my favorite song of theirs but I don't know yet because no one told me and I didn't ask. I probably look horrible in it, but I finally got a passport photo taken, by a guy who shoots...Marilyn Manson! :) I'm assisting him today, which is cool. I like to learn new things.

I keep forgetting to mention... the first time I went to Mike's house (Through You singer, and it's also shared by the bassist and sound guy), I pretty much flipped the fuck out because I was getting the tour of the house but kept asking for the bathroom cuz I had to pee and when we finally got there, he was talking about Spongebob's face and I was like ? but then he reached over me and put the lid down...

So just when I was ready to quit the music business, amazing things started happening. My focus has shifted from sucky major record labels to a local band and I'm much happier. It's very weird because they have a song that's been rather prominent with them lately and it describes perfectly what's been happening to me this week. [Editing this to say that I forgot that I already kind of mentioned all of this, therefore I'd like to add that I'm their new merch girl and so far have been kicking ass at it like anything else I do. I will also probably be doing other things for them too. So far I love these guys and the rest of their camp too.]

I wish I would've tried these particular sweet potato chips sooner. I got a really good deal on them at Big Lots but didn't want to stock up without knowing if I'd like them (I was worried the cinnamon and nutmeg would be too strong but it's not) and I don't think they have any left any more. Dangit!

If I'm not in TX for Warped Tour, I may go see DMX. He's doing a show in St. Pete and it's only about $20. I think that could be fun.

I'm not looking forward to my job later today AT ALL (booth greeter at a tech show) but at least it's only 3 hours long and pays on the spot.

So some more BS (music work related) has gone down. There's been an abundance of this lately. It's stupid. But I guess that's how it is, and I'll just keep on keeping on until I can't take it anymore and leave the field completely and probably make way more money doing something else and all the idiots can kiss my ass. Anyway, things happen for a reason, or at least I can always find a positive in a negative, and this was probably just the push I need to focus on some other related but more important things. So I'm involved with (or at least I hope I am, or will be, because we've only met once, a couple days ago) this band now, you can check them out at myspace.com/throughyou The guys are awesome. They range in age from 14 to 28, which is weird but cool. After the meeting, the singer and I went on a "date," lol, at midnight, to Taco Bell. We found a blanket and had a picnic on the grass between Taco Bell and some office building or something. It was fun. He matches me in hyperness. Besides the fact it's not a good idea to get involved with bands that I work with, and the fact nothing's even progressed to that point anyway, and the fact he's Christian, he's really awesome and really cute. And a really good singer, and this is from someone who sat in on a rehearsal and that's when you can really tell who has talent and who doesn't. I feel like there was something else I was gonna say that has nothing to do with any of this, but I can't remember.

Today I got a brand new (well, used probably like twice) Tama drum throne for $15. Cheapest I'd get that new is $40 (or $20 for an offbrand). And I got a pink Spongebob umbrella for $2.50. Thank you craigslist and walmart :)

WTF at things being off by ONE day. Like, if I'm lucky enough to get to work Warped Tour this year, it's still possible to also go to Marilyn Manson/Slayer and Ozzfest (I'm starting to like Lordi and Lamb Of God, in addition to the bands on the tour I already wanted to see), and I should have free tickets to everything (and possible meet and greet with Slayer), but it won't work unless I pull all-nighters. If only the Marysville, CA Manson/Slayer was one day earlier, and the Detroit Ozzfest was one day later, this would all work perfectly. But knowing me, I'd probably say "eff sleep," and fly directly from the end of Warped Tour in CA to Detroit because I'd planned to be there a day or two later (for Rush and the ren fest) anyway. Oh, and guess what I'll have the two times this summer that it's a huge inconvenience to have my period?

I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, but I finally figured out what company staffs the Jagerettes for Jagermeister promotions. It was right under my nose. Applying now...

So I'm still a slight bit sick, mostly a (gross) cough. I finally got out of bed today because I had a very important show to go to. I finally saw Loreena! It was awesome, and my 4th row ticket ended up being a 2nd row ticket. This was at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor, so some of you probably know what I'm talking about. I was 2nd row on the right. Anyway, earlier in the day sucked! I developed a rash aronud 1AM. Every time I went to look at it, it was worse and worse, and around 8:30AM I almost passed out a few times. So I went to the doctor. Turns out it was no big deal, urticaria, which is basically like hives, and it goes away after a day or two. But in the meantime, I pretty much looked like Freddy Krueger. So I got some over the counter medicine, slept for a while, then got up and somehow made it to the show. The rash had spread to my face (!) and neck before the show, plus I had the chapped nose and lips from my cold, so I'm sure I looked awful, but whatever. The setlist was perfect. I passed her outside after, but didn't say anything. I will next time though! I only wish that my shows were sooner because for a while there was a huge market for her tour-exclusive DVD/CD (it'll be in stores, but not til the fall) and now not so much. I planned to buy one or two and sell it to pay for my merch, I had made a killing off the Sarah Brightman tour CD, but I don't think it'll go so well this time. I'll probably still try it though. I wish I wasn't so sick lately; I still have to plan out my Kalamazoo/Chicago trips and I'll probably only have about an hour or two to do it, which is plenty of time but it sucks to feel rushed.

For those of you who live in Michigan and know that I'm here and are thinking I'm ignoring you... I'm not. I got in yesterday afternoon but feel like I'm dying. I have a really really bad cold and I've only left my bed once (just now, to go to the post office, which was weird because I got recognized by two people-- my elementary school latchkey teacher and my favorite post office employee). I may be up and about tomorrow, but I may not. So there's a slight chance I won't get to see many of you, but I will try. My only potential available times though (and it's dependent on whether or not I'm sick) are tomorrow, Sunday morning/afternoon, Monday late morning/very early afternoon, and late on the 2nd/early 3rd.

As you probably know, I don't really watch TV and especially not American Idol. So I only just now, like today, finally looked into this Sanjaya fellow and watched some videos and stuff, and... I like him!

The Update
Get ready for a massive update. I have a list.

So I finally got to go to Sublime, on my way down to Homestead to manage a weekend promotion at the speedway. It was so beautiful! And the food was so good! And while I was there I heard Janis Joplin and Regina Spektor. I ordered two entrees and two desserts, had half there and took half "home" with me for the next day. At $51.46 with tax and tip, this is by far my most expensive meal ever, however, I had a big travel allowance that I only used half of (including Sublime) so I figured I'd splurge. Plus, I had forgotten about this, but profits go to a local animal rights organization. People who say that it's more expensive to be vegan are wrong *except* for the fact that some of us tend to splurge on vegan restaurants. Everything else can be cheap though, and you'll read about my recent trip to Big Lots later. Here are pictures of my seitan steak (was similar to my favorite beef that I used to have, it was sooooooo good) with cucumber yogurt dip, Israeli couscous (reminded me of orzo) with currants, and watercress...my margherita flatbread pizza, my coconut doughtnuts, and my brownie trio (chocolate mint with whipped cream, chocolate peanut butter banana, and what seemed to just be regular chocolate with nuts on top). Oh yeah, and I also stopped there on the way back up to Orlando and got the seitan tenders to go. This was red beans and rice, fried plantains, and chicken. It was good, but I wasn't that into it, even after scraping off the green onions which actually didn't smell too bad for once. In retrospect, I should've saved $5 and got another pizza instead.
photos under the cutCollapse )

I went to Chipotle recently, to get a carryout order (which I then took to the Enzian for a movie and ate outside by the trees and fountain which was nice), and when I was getting my fork and my napkins a song came on that I quickly identified as "Lady Stardust" by David Bowie. I was shocked to hear that because it was n ever a single or anything. It's off Ziggy Stardust. I made it to 2 of the 4 film festival movies that I planned to see. They were both pretty good. I'm going to try to remember the others so I can see them eventually.

I had the most ridiculous conversation recently. It was with a friend of a friend of Abby's. Abby handed me a bag of jelly beans and was like, I don't know if you can have these, but here you go. I looked at the ingredients and was like, the only questionable thing is confectioners glaze. Then this girl (who isn't vegan but knows someone who used to be, or something like that), was like, let me see it, I'll tell you if it is [vegan or not]. I'm like, I already saw it, I'm not sure about the confectioners glaze. I must've said that about 5 times after every thing she said, because she was all insistent on telling me if it was or not. She was like, let me eat one, I'll know once I taste it. I was like wtf are you talking about?! At a different point in the conversation, after knowing I was vegan, she was like, "do you eat fish?" So she clearly isn't the expert on being vegan.

My mom sent me a box of stuff for Easter and it's so awesome. Everything in there was so great, I freaked out over everything. And she keeps the prices on and I like seeing how cheap the stuff was. Like, she gave me a two-pack of Airborne (from CVS on clearance for $3.25!), a bunch of fruit leather and fruit bars including flavors I've never had before, a vegan cookbook that looks to be really good ($3.99 at Marshall's!), some Luna bars in flavors I've never had, Twizzlers, and some other things that I can't think of at the moment.

I saw this post online recently from someone who was going to go see Meat Loaf and taking his/her father but the father couldn't go so they wanted to give the ticket away for free to someone who wanted to go. I thought why not, because it was a good ticket and expensive and nothing I'd get the chance to see otherwise so I replied. I was the first (out of what ended up being about 10 people) and got invited. Then I thought about it. It ended up being a guy (which I figured it would be) but everything seemed okay and seemed to check out. I wasn't able to find out anything about him online, but he seemed okay. At first I thought he'd be on the younger side but later I was thinking he might be more like 40 or something. Well, I go to pick him up (he was staying right by the venue. I was apprehensive about this but figured it'd be okay) and was pleasantly surprised. He looked about 30ish and pretty okay. So we get to the show, it was running late (as were we) so we had some beers, we go into the packed theater and sit down and then this guy comes out and tells us all that it's cancelled because he's too sick to perform. So we left and in an attempt to find something to do ended up driving all over the place and wandering around areas that usually have a lot going on, and then we went to Steak N Shake (his first time! he's from Minnesota, by the way) and that was it. We got along so well that I went and hung out with him for a few hours the next day too until he had to fly back. Oh yeah, and he's 27. I've been "dating" a fair amount lately, moreso than I used to anyway, and while everyone is great, I see more compatibility potential with this one than the other really recent one. If I ever go on the world series of pop culture on VH1 (which I've never actually seen, but I've heard about), he'd have to be on my team. He knew every single movie that I mentioned, including obscure independent science fiction and a bunch of other stuff no one knows, and he actually beat me at least half the time when flipping around on the radio and naming title and artist. One of us would get it in literally a second. It was fun.

I got Garden Cafe (vegan Chinese restaurant in case you forgot or never knew) recently. I got a spring roll and the sesame chicken with white rice. I like the sesame chicken because it only comes with one vegetable (broccoli) and not a lot of it. Usually I split that with someone, and still sometimes have a bit left over. But the other day, in one meal, I ate the entire sesame chicken (minus the stalk of one piece of broccoli), the spring roll, and half the rice!

So I went to Big Lots for the first time in a long time and here's the great stuff I found, and for only $26.60:
giant box (36 packets!) of Quaker oatmeal
2-pack of organic Cascadian Farms multigrain squares cereal
box of apple jacks
3-pack of Kashi seven whole grain pilaf (I think this usually sells for about $2.50 for one and I paid $1.99 for three)
3 cans of Campbells Select "fiesta vegetable" soup (I've only ever seen this at Big Lots, but it's really good)
2 boxes of organic tomato sauce
can of Hunt's organic roasted garlic pasta sauce
can of Manwich
can of black beans
can of butter beans (I've never had these but I think I'll like 'em, especially with fried okra and cornbread!)
5 jars of baby food (for me! but I only eat the fruit kind)
small bag of sunflower seeds
peppermint chocolate soymilk (yes, you heard right! I didn't know this existed either, must've been out for Christmas. It's really good and kind of reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream. I have yet to try it hot.)
juicebox of passionfruit smoothie
bag of apple chips
and a 10-pack of scrubber sponges
Let's see... I spent $26.60...regular retail price I'd say would probably be about $45.00 or more (I added up to $45.25 but I used conservative pricing like Walmart prices)

I finally located and bought Tings. I heard they were the vegan version of [crunchy] Cheetos and they are! They're awesome for a few reasons:
1.) They're vegan, so no animals were harmed in the making of these.
2.) They're lightly colored, so they won't turn you orange like a Cheeto
3.) They're better for you because instead of a bunch of artificial and junky ingredients all they are is corn meal, rice and/or sunflower oil, nutritional yeast, and salt!
I highly recommend these. They're so good! And to give you an idea of price, I paid $1.50 on sale for a 6 oz. bag that's a pretty decent size, so it's not too bad.

BTW, the prices will be at a slight discount from the regular sale. And more bands got added today, so check that out.
